Like many musicians during the pandemic I found myself with ample time on my hands since all of my performances had been canceled. I was looking for a project to occupy myself with when I decided I would finally do what I had been telling myself since I got married - I would make a proper recording of the wedding march I had composed for my wife for our wedding. (I also thought this would make a special anniversary present as well.)

What started with just the one piece quickly started to escalate. I decided one piece wasn't enough to justify a CD package so I made the decision to include the three other pieces I had arranged for our wedding ceremony. A snowed out recording session gave me 3 extra weeks of waiting around which is how Little Black Backpack and Fort Williams came to be included with the wedding pieces.

Little Black Backpack is something of an enigma. It's not exactly a happy song but for some reason was a favorite of my wife's during her college years. (Strangely enough it was played at our wedding reception, hence the wedding connection.) I thought this would be a fun little surprise to include on the CD and secretly arranged the song for string quartet.

Fort Williams is a programmatic work named after the decommissioned military base in Cape Elizabeth, ME which is a spot my wife took me to on our first trip to the Pine Tree State together. Originally composed for full orchestra, it had never been performed or recorded, so I had decided to create a scaled down arrangement for string quartet.
